Saint Giles'
Mission Statement
“With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our mission is to bring all people to unity with God and each other in Christ, through worship, education, ministry and service.”
We
work toward
achieving our Mission with various groups of volunteers, called
“Ministry Teams,” each monitoring and planning our life. Here is
a list of the ministry teams and their members:
The Vestry Getting Involved
ALTAR GUILD - preparing the sanctuary for Eucharist each week and for special services (weddings, funerals, Holy Days, etc.) and restoring order following worship. Particular responsibilities (flowers, vestments, linens, seasonal decorations, etc.) are allocated and new members are trained and scheduled by Directress Jean Greenwood 549-4704. BIBLE STUDY - A small group meets every Thursday afternoon at 1:30 in the library with Pastor Bob. The lessons for the next Sunday, with focus on the Gospel, are the topics of discussion each week. Every one is welcome to join. If you cannot meet during the daytime speak to Pastor Bob about arranging an evening group. CHORISTERS and MUSICIANS (See the CHOIRS page.) COFFEE HOUR - Every Sunday we enjoy coffee and….. If you would like to be added to the hosting roster call Carolyn Gray 563-3578. She will gladly pair you up with an experienced host/hostess to prepare goodies, cheese and crackers and coffee. The church supplies coffee, sugar and cream, and juice for the kids. You provide the food for grown-ups and kids. You will be scheduled once every other month. ECW - Also known as Episcopal Church Women, to which every St. Giles’ woman belongs. The meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 2:00 pm at the church. This group enjoys devotions, business and fellowship. The women do lots of cooking and catering, purchase all supplies for the altar and the kitchen and plan many social events for the congregation. Even if you can’t attend the meetings you can be involved with this group. Speak to Jean Miller at coffee hour at call her at 832-6158. GREETERS - Would you like to be the first to say ‘hello’ to Sunday morning worshippers? If so you should sign up to be a greeter. Your job is to welcome members and visitors, hand out service bulletins, answer visitor’s questions (nursery? bathrooms? Sunday School?) and ease latecomers into the service at an appropriate time. Sign up with the Eichlers 549-3869. LITURGICAL MINISTRIES - Assisting the clergy with administration of the chalice, serving as Acolyte or Server (Crucifer), or taking the Sacrament to the home-bound or persons in the hospital are trained by Pastor Jeweet, Deacon Burns, and Richard Gross 622-1773. MINISTRY (Planning) TEAMS - These six ìstanding committeesî of the Vestry always welcome additional planners and workers in the visioning and evaluating of new ministries. See separate page for the ìportfoliosî of these groups and the names and numbers of each MTís convenor(s). PINE HILL NURSERY SCHOOL - Our parish-sponsored preschool operates from mid September through Memorial Day. The program runs Monday-Friday, 8:30-11:30. If you need information to register a child 3-5 years old or wish to volunteer in the program please speak to Dotti Meyer 549-7452. READERS - To read a lesson or the intercessory Prayers of the People you should contact Carolyn Gray 563-3578. She will schedule you approximately once every six weeks or so. Your name will be listed in the newsletter Lay Ministers Schedule and you will receive an ‘illumination’ for your lesson in the mail. If you are the intercessor YOU choose the form you prefer from the booklet in each pew and on your Sunday morning you will be given a list of names, families and churches to ‘plug’ into the blanks of your chosen form whose booklet page you will announce immediately following the Creed. SPECIAL EVENTS - Fellowship Dinners and Vestry fund-raisers (International Dinners, Annual Fair & BBQ, St. Giles' Patronal Festival BBQ, etc.) Call the chair persons announced in the Sunday leaflet or Pine Hill News, or simply inquire of any vestry member, warden, or clergy. The Vestry Our Governing Council In the
Episcopal Church the legal “corporation” of St. Giles’ is the
“Rector, Wardens, and Vestry”; that body “owns” the church (except if
it is closed, when the Diocese of Maine takes possession of the
property), is legally liable, and enters into any contracts—as with the
employees. The Vestry sets the budgets and manages the funds
entrusted to the mission of the parish by the congregation.
Officers
John Atwood, Senior Warden 586-5557 Junior Warden: Ken Marden 549-4783 Treasurer: Betsy Lee 563-2942 Members Tom Eichler, Clerk,549-3869 James Brown (2009) 549-3913 Jean Greenwood (2010) 549-4704 Debbie King (2009) 549-7872 George Jones (2011) 832-7412 Linda Pierpont (2011) 549-4663 Kevin Rousseau (2010) 549-4902 The Annual Meeting of St. Giles’ Parish is held in January, usually the second Sunday of the month. The sole constitutional charge of this meeting is to elect new vestry members, officers, and parish representatives (and alternates) to conventions of the Diocese of Maine. Those entitled to vote (or serve) are congregants registered as active Members of St. Giles’, but of course all interested persons are welcome to attend and participate Written reports of the past year’s activities are made by all parish organizations, groups and guilds, Ministry Teams, Pine Hill Nursery School, and various others, and the Vestry presents its budget for the ensuing year for questions, comments and endorsement by the meeting. The minutes of this meeting and ALL regular vestry meetings are posted in the parish hall on the “St. Giles’ News” bulletin board.
