![]() Driving directions to St. Giles’ Church in Jefferson, ME: From the north and east: If traveling from north of Belfast, take Route 1 south to Belfast. (about 60 min.) a) Turn west (right) onto Rte. 3. Continue to Rte. 131. Turn south (left) onto 131; continue to Rte. 17 in Union. Turn west (right) onto 17. Continue as c) below. or b) Continue on Rte. 1 south through Camden center to Rte. 90. Turn west (right), and continue to Rte. 17. Turn right onto 17. Continue through Union. c) At Rte. 220 turn south (left). Continue to Rte. 126; turn west (right). Continue on 126 through Jefferson “center” and pass the Baptist Church. Stay on 126 (left) as Rte. 32 turns right toward Augusta; continue a short way till 126 turns to the right. Continue on 126 toward Gardiner about 500 yards. St. Giles’ signs and driveways are at the top of the hill on the left. If traveling from Camden/Rockland area: (a long 30 min.) Take Rtes. 90/17 (Camden/Rockport) or Rte. 17 west (Rockland) and follow c) above. From the north or west: From 95-South or Augusta (about 40 min.) Take second exit onto Western Highway. Continue to “Capitol Circle” and cross the elevated bridge to “Cony Circle”. Turn right onto Rte. 9w. Continue 3 blocks; turn left onto Rte. 17 east (“Eastern Highway”). Continue, joined by Rte. 32 from Windsor, to Coopers Mills. At Irving Station on left, bear right with Rte. 32 (“To Waldoboro”; St. Giles’ ECUSA sign also). Continue (up and down, up & down) to Jefferson intersection with westering Rt 126 (Damariscotta Lake is directly ahead. TURN RIGHT onto 126; go about 500 yards and turn right (west) with 126 (PECUSA sign opposite, Historical Soc. Building on right). Continue 100 yds. to top of hill; St. Giles’ signs and driveways are on the left. From the south: From I-95 northbound (or from the west): (80? min. from Portland depending on traffic) Take either Exit 22 or Exit 24. Continue east, either passing through Brunswick’s strip-mall area or crossing the Androscoggin’s new by-pass bridge, to Rte. 1 “North”. Continue through Bath into Wiscasset. Passing Rte. 27 on the left and the Lincoln County courthouse on the right, just before descending the Rte. 1 hill into “the loveliest village in Maine”, watch for Rte. 218 entering from the left (opposite the U.S. Post Office). Turn left (north) onto 218. STAY ON 218; halfway to Whitefield, it twists left then jogs right and tries to seduce you into staying straight on Rte. 196… don’t be fooled, it’s not 126 yet! Take this jog right across the little bridge in “Head Tide” (don’t you love it!). The interminable-seeming Rte. 218 eventually butts directly into the elusive Rte. 126 coming east from Gardiner (in fact, 218 CONTINUES north to Rte. 17; take it if you like, but it won’t get you to St. Giles’). Turn right (east) onto Rte. 126. Continue (up & down, up & down) by-passing Rte. 215 which crosses 126 at Clary Lake. Watch for the Highway Dept. quonset on the right, then the round stone cattle pound on the right; St. Giles’ signs and driveways will be soon on the right also (just turkeys and bears on the left here). If you butt into Rte. 213 where 126 turns left (at the Historical Society), you’ve missed St. G’s; it’s back on the top of the hill you just descended.
